Dr. Mary Goretti Nakabugo, the Executive Director of UWEZO Uganda, has been appointed to the UNESCO Advisory Board on the Global Education Monitoring Report.
Achieving the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4) on education requires robust evidence and analysis to support policy-making, facilitate the sharing of good practices, and hold stakeholders accountable for their commitments. The Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report) is a global public good that fulfills this role. Established in 2002, the GEM Report is an editorially independent publication hosted and published by UNESCO.
The Advisory Board of the Global Education Monitoring Report is composed of representatives from UN multilateral agencies, bilateral agencies, non-governmental organizations, civil society groups and networks, directors of UNESCO education institutes, and individuals from developing countries in all world regions with expertise in education issues. The Board meets once a year to provide guidance and feedback to the report team on a range of topics, from the outline of upcoming editions to the overall development of the Report, future themes, and communication strategies.
Dr. Mary Goretti Nakabugo will represent Group Va-Africa for a period of two years. She is currently attending the inaugural meeting at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
Dr. Nakabugo’s appointment is a significant recognition of her expertise and commitment to advancing education in Africa. Her involvement will contribute to the strategic direction and impact of the GEM Report, ensuring it continues to provide valuable insights and support to education systems worldwide.
