Handover of ICESCO Educational Kits to The Beneficiary Institutions in Shimoni Core Primary Teachers’ College

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr. James Kakooza has officially handed over the educational content creation toolkit to 6 beneficiary institutions spread across the country in a ceremony held at Shimoni Core Primary Teachers College. The function was witnessed by the heads of the beneficiary institutions, members of the press and officials from the Education Ministry.

While delivering his remarks, the PS stated that, despite the challenges of adapting to the new means of learning amidst the prevalence of Covid-19, the education ministry has worked tirelessly hard with all key stakeholders in the sectors to ensure that handouts  reach out to all learners inform of materials and through other means such as radios, televisions, the internet, etc.

 He further added that, availability the right technologies would go a long way in not only enhancing teaching and learning in educational institutions but also promote online learning. “Many institutions do not have the right technologies to promote online learning. And if they do, they, some of the teachers are not hands on with ICT equipment and technology”. The Permanent Secretary Added.

The six selected beneficiary institutions that will serve as hubs for the equipment include;

  • Education ministry to boost the education radio and television section and NATCOM content development
  • Shimoni Core PTC as the national hub for pre-primary and primary education serving the central region
  • Muni NTC for secondary teacher training serving the West Nile region
  • Islamic University in Uganda, to serve as a hub for Universities and support Content creation in the East Region of Uganda

The Secretary General of Uganda National Commission for UNESCO/ICESCO Ms. Rosie Agoi, while delivering her remarks informed the education stakeholders that ICESCO has been at the helm of finding solutions to ensure continuity of programmes in the filed of education, sciences and culture. She further added, “a number of virtual meetings have been held and the donations we are seeing today are some of the proposed solutions for the continuity of teaching and learning in the country”.
