Education for peace and sustainability is currently the overarching goal of UNESCO’s education, and empowered global citizenry is a key objective within this goal. Education for Sustainability (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) are therefore becoming ever more important instruments for achieving these goals (UNESCO, 2013).

Uganda celebrate World Press Freedom Day

World Press Freedom Day on 3 May is the global celebration of the fundamental right to freedom of expression. In following suit, Uganda held celebrations to mark this iconic day with series of activities earmarked out, a procession from Sheraton gardens through the streets of Kampala led by brush band to the railway grounds at Jinja road was followed by another function held at Golf Course Hotel where awards were given out to performing personalities in the journalism profession then a cocktail tail party at the hotel pool side to sum up the day.

At the Uganda National Commission for UNESCO (UNATCOM), August started on a high note as the first day of the month saw the institution convoke scores of stakeholders from across the country to discuss and subsequently validate the National Education for Sustainable (ESD) draft policy.

Uganda National Commission for UNESCO is organisng ESD policy Validation workshop schedule to take place on the 1st of August, 2016, at Silver Springs Hotel, Bugolobi.
Key amount the subject of debate is the current state  of Education in Uganda, relevancy of the current curriculum, Incoporation of ESD into our curriculum, Global Action Programme (GAP), Agenda  2030 and other key important areas.
In, 2005, the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development was \r\nlaunched to enhance the role of education in promoting sustainable \r\ndevelopment in 2013, the 37th session of the general conference of \r\nunesco endorsed the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD as follow up to\r\n the Decade. The GAP was launched  at the UNESCO World Conference on \r\nEducation for Sustainable Development held on the 10-12 November 2014 in\r\n Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. By Ogal Vincent.
